Hole in the wall breakfast spot, closes early, They have lunch and dinner options but I've only had the breakfast. The kool aid is good, I guess that sets it's apart from other places. Tight sitting, a local favorite
Hmmm, where to begin.... I've only ordered the salmon croquettes, scrambled eggs, rice and kool-aid. That's all that I can personally attest to, but let me tell you that the place stays crowded from open to close. When is open and close? I have no idea. Haha. I don't think they are there at a scheduled time every day, but I could be wrong. The phone isn't always answered during the busiest times. Door Dash delivers their food, which is a viable option. Street parking is available. It's on a corner, West McNichols at Ward, so there is side street parking. Or take your chances parking on McNichols. Each time I have visited, I have waited no less than 30 minutes...even if I have called 30 mins before arriving. Many people dine in. There is seating for probably ten at the counter and perhaps six booths. Don't quote me, I'm guessing. I go in check in at the back by the register and squeeze in where I can wait for my order. Back to the only meal I order from there...it's hands down the best breakfast that I have eaten in the city of Detroit. The salmon croquettes, or patties, as my family calls them, are delicious. My eggs are always cooked perfectly scrambled with cheese and the rice is buttered and seems a little sweet... ummm, maybe that's just me. I add sugar to my rice. Haha! This meal is my favorite childhood meal. I would probably request it as my last meal on earth. I've only used cash, but I did see someone pay with a card on my last visit. Not sure what type. You absolutely will smell like cooked food when you leave. You absolutely will have a hard time parking. You absolutely will have to wait forever; but if you can get passed all of that...your tummy will be satisfied.
Sometimes you wanna go where everyone knows your name. And they're always glad you came. This is definitely the feel you get when you experience Connie and Barbara's Soul Food Restaurant. Awesome customer service, great food and and authentic and genuine kindness. You get a lot for what spend. A small food spot that has been open for years in the motor city and everyone that walks through the door is greeted a smile!! "Don't worry Connie and Barbara I'll be back and I'll bring more people with me!" #Foodie #SaturdayLunch #FoodLover #DetroitEats #Family #BlackOwnBusiness #SoulFood #Travel #DetroitFood #MotorCityFoodie #FoodBlogger #RestaurantConnoissuer
I LOVE Connie's! Long time customer and supporter! My favorite dishes include the salmon croquettes with double rice OR smothered turkey chops with rice & gravy, creamed corn and cabbage. Kool-aid plus extra ice LOL Seldomly disappointing. The service is slow so EXPECT TO WAIT! It's not fast food!!! Also, it's better to go with a regular so you get acclimated I the service and have someone to laugh with during your dining experience. Familiar faces are treated familiar, as they should be! Overall, Connie's is a good, family owned Black business with straight ass food and a down home feel. Give it a shot and play by the rules!
As a first time patron of Connie & Barbara's and I happy to say that I will return for breakfast and I am looking forward to trying lunch and dinner. This place looks shabby from the outside (and the inside is nothing to write home about), but the taste and portions of food negates that. A plus is that our waitress was very attentive and so very pleasant. I also observed her --she was very consistent with sanitizing customer use surfaces and her hands often.
